It is the time again for another curated box from The Gentleman Stationer. This one is the New Discoveries box for 2026, and it has some great products inside, many of which are new to me which is great. Don't be confused, as I was able to pick mine up local, so mine came in a bag, but these are normally posted to Gentleman Stationer Patrons first, and then are opened to the public if there are extras that were not claimed.
Joe does a great job of finding fun products that are very useful for day to day stationery needs, and this box sticks to that theme. Vanness Haul With Nibs to Swap into Limited Edition Lamy 2000 Pine and Black Amber Pens

So I have found myself in the hunt for limited edition Lamy 2000, and I have been able to add 3 of them into my collection. I found the Black Amber, Brown and Pine editions, and in order to use them regularly, we need to swap out the nibs. I placed an order from Vanness for a couple of EF nibs, and added a few more items in at the same time, so we will unbox the order, and then go through replacing the nibs in 2 of them pens.
I also do a line thickness comparison of the EF, F, and ground Lamy 2000 nibs using the Dominant Industry line gauge to show how the nibs all stack up.

We talk about how he got started, and the path that followed in terms of teaching himself to make pens which quickly led to pouring his own blanks, and things just kept growing over time.

Testing the Asvine P100 for the First Time

I saw that Asvine had released another pen model, so I felt like I needed to pick one up to give it a try. Enter the Asvine P100 in the brushed titanium finish. This piston filler has a gold tone number 8 nib in Extra Fine, and a great brushed finish. The nib has a smooth flow on the Crena Lightning paper that I tested it on with Rohrer and Klinger Konigsblau. This seems like it will be a great pen to give someone, and I can see this becoming a pen in the mid price range that many people will want to add to their collection.

My Kyuseido Akari has arrived as well as the Schon Design Little Dipper, so we will get that opened up and put it to the initiail test compared to the Colorverse Shuttle and the Kakimori dip nibs. I have a new Taccia ink to swatch, as well as starting to swatch the Diamine inks in the collection for the multi paper swatch book. I also have a Royal Sabre typewriter cleaned up and added to the fleet.

Finally Got My Hands On The Kyuseido Akari! (And The Shinya)

So after waiting for around two years, I finally pulled the trigger on picking up the Kyuseido Shinya at the 2026 DC Pen show, and now I find myself just a few weeks later with a second Kyuseido Akari that was released at the 2026 SF Pen show. I was lucky to have a friend be able to pick one up for me and I am glad that I did. Both of these pens are functionally the same with the pump piston filling system, but between the different looks and the different nibs, it is two different writing experiences in a good way.
In this video I show the packaging that the Kyuseido pens come in, and I show how the pump piston filling system works with a new bottle of Taccia Ainezu ink on some Crena Lightning Thick paper. I show some writing from the gold tone 14K nib with the F nib on the Akari as well as from the Shinya filled with Vanness Hummingbird Green ink with the CY needlepoint grind on it.

Finally Got The Diplomat Cobra! (First Impressions)

In this video I unbox and take a look at the fairly recently released Diplomat Cobra. I chose the burgundy color, and this is quite a nice looking pen. This is Diplomat's followup to their other popular snake themed pen the hooded nib Viper. I ink this up with the Montblanc Starwalker Blue ink, and show it next to the other Diplomat pens in my collection of the Brass Aero, Black Stripe Aero, Orange and Black Elox, and the blue Viper. I show some writing on some Crena Snowfall Sands paper.
