Writing from the iPhone

Well I am close to having my WP all set up how I would like it. I still need to populate the list on links on the side list and do a few other tweaks here and there. After I am done doing that, I really need to either remake my main page, or just use the wordpress to do my entire site. I am also in debate about what to do with my Livejournal when the paid account expires in April. I think that it will probably just go back to a free account and use the WP as my primary outlet.

On a completely unrelated note, I love watching Serenity and seeing the BSG reaver fleet. It is an extra shot of geek that never gets old.

Oh to wake up at 4:30 for no reason

As the title says, I woke up at 4:30 on the dot today, and had no ability to go back to sleep. I hate waking up like this. At least it isn’t as bad as waking up about 5 minutes before the alarm is going to go off. At least I guess this now allows me to post an update, as it is really too early to start getting ready for work.

It is supposed to get up to 60 degrees today. It looks like riding the bike into work will be happening. Tomorrow, it is supposed to get to almost 70 degrees. I am not really sure where I will be riding to, but I intend to get out on the bike and head somewhere.

I have come to the realization that the more I watch and follow the news, politics etc, the angrier it makes me. I see all of these news stories on a variety of topics and I just hate seeing the stupidity that is rampant all around. For example, just now on the news they were talking about the USS Cole bombing trial being stopped and the charges dismissed. They just had the Commander of the Cole on when it was bombed. 17 dead, and 37 wounded that day. The govt knows who it was, and was in the process of the military trial, and now all of the 8 years or process that have happened are for nothing.

Another story is that anyone who gets arrested for anything having to give DNA. Now this is very interesting to me. This is essentially the start of an Orwellian future. I am all for criminals getting caught and justice served for their crime, but the way that this is being presented, if you are arrested for anything, you would have to give DNA. We live in a society of innocent until proven guilty, and this would change that system to one of innocent, but possibly guilty in the future. It reminds me of Minority Report. Now if the sample was taken after a conviction, then I would be fine with that.

These are just examples from this mornings news. There are so many more that I come across throughout the day, and it just pisses me off. This “Stimulus aka Lets waste money on everything that we can possibly think of and say it is a dire emergency if it isnt passed now” is the worst. If you go through and read all of the crap that is in this, then you pretty much have to agree that quite a bit of it is not meant to stimulate the economy in any way. Some prime examples can be seen in this article from the WSJ. Here is the start of the article.

Las Vegas, which by some accounts already glitters, wants $2 million for neon signs.

Boynton Beach, Fla., is looking for $4.5 million for an “eco park” featuring butterfly gardens and gopher tortoises.

And Chula Vista, Calif., would like $500,000 to create a place for dogs to run off the leash.

See what I mean? The other guise on this is that many of these will create jobs. Ok, sure, they will create jobs for the 6 months to a year it takes to build this stuff, and then those same jobs go away when the construction is done. I wonder if those of you who live in DC have a constant smell of bacon in the air with all of the pork that is being thrown around up there.

This all seems to be the start of a very socialist type system. This video clip from the Glenn Beck show has a clip in it of a lawmaker who slips and says the words moving towards socializing things, and then stops in mid-sentence when she realized that she was saying it out loud. Watch at 4:45 in. The California democrat says it out loud, and then stumbles to try and recover, by saying that she thinks that the government should be running all of the businesses.

For some odd reason I seem to update on Wednesdays

I realized this morning that for some reason my last few updates have all been on Wednesdays. Odd, but at least I updated with something. I really don’t have much to say right now. Sure, I could talk about how I don’t plan on paying taxes this year so that I can get a presidential cabinet position, or that I haven’t seen any change yet, but I am not in the mood for that.

The episode of BSG last Friday made me proud to be a geek. I think that I could watch that episode every day of the week, and be pleasantly happy. That episode got back to the roots of the show, and that made me happy. Big Bang theory continues to make me laugh uncontrollably. It really is one of the best comedies on TV. LOST is tonight, and i am sure that it will make my head hurt in a good way before the hour is over.

The house progress is going well. I now have dates and times ironed out, so it is just a matter of starting to pack stuff and waiting for the house to be finished. I have been working on getting rid of stuff I haven’t used in quite some time, but I have a long way to go before the end of March. I am sure there is quite a bit of stuff that I can sell, but deciding if the small about of potential money outweighs the hassle of doing the selling is yet to be decided.

Leverage, LOST, and xBox

After finishing up Dexter, I needed something to watch, so I started watching Leverage. I had heard Stephen from granades.com and of Whatthecast mention this on one of the podcast episodes, and I have to agree with his view that this is a great show. There is just something about con artists who con other con artists. It is very Dexteresque in that the main character only targets like minded targets. I am four episodes in so far, and I can’t believe how quickly the hour passes. I have the other 4 episodes downloaded, and hope to get them finished soon.

Last night was the long awaited 2 hour LOST premiere. Once again, there were many IMs, texts and tweets to people that mainly consisted of the letters W, T and F. I am interested to see where the the show is headed and will eagerly look forward to each Wednesday night for the foreseeable future.

About a year ago, my buddy told me about the program called Connect360. This “tricks” the xbox into thinking that a mac is a pc which allows for content to be streamed to the xbox. The other day, I finally took the time to update my software, and try it out for videos on my xbox, since the xbox can now handle divx movies. Needless to say, I am in love. This is what saved me over this week while I was under a pile of blankets on the couch. Being able to watch downloaded programs on my 56″ tv vs my 15″ laptop was a blessing. If you have a mac and a 360, then check out this software. it was well worth the 20 bucks.

I had another friend call me this afternoon offering me a pass to go and see the new Underworld screener tonight. I am excited. Granted it isn’t Kate Beckinsale, but the main actress did a good job in Doomsday, so I am hopeful. I will post my thoughts on it either later on tonight, or tomorrow.

Dexter

Well I just finished up Dexter Season 2, and I have to say, I really dig this show. I am starting season 3 now. I like the way how everything is intertwined, but not in an obvious way like some shows tend to do it. I am interested to see what the direction and main theme of season 3 will be.
