From Bonnie-Chan to Quinn

Well as my last couple of picture updates have noted, I traded in Bonnie Chan for a Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200L, who is now known as Quinn. I do not regret my decision at all. This is something that I planned to do since about a week after I took my motorcycle license class. I realized that I should have purchased a motorcycle instead of a scooter then, but it was too new to trade back in for a bike. I had to wait a while in order to make the trade, and last week I was able to work it out. It was quite a change going from a 1 gear 250cc engine to a 5 speed 1200 cc engine, but I have adapted to the change rather well if I do say so myself. It will be quite a while before I am at a point where I will take a passenger out on it, but I am much happier with the motorcycle.

I am running into the part now where that I need to decide what all accessories that I need to add to the bike. Some of the ones that are at the top of the list are forward controls, which allow for a more stretched out riding position, engine guards, which help protect the engine if you drop the bike, saddle bags, to carry crap, and a sissy bar, to be used to add a touring bag to, or give a passenger something to lean back against. I have a spreadsheet already figured out with costs and options to budget out when I think I can make the additions to the bike. I also plan on listing some stuff on ebay soon to help with my bike accessory purchasing. I think one of the first things to go will be my Starship Troopers jumpball suit. I should easily be able to add forward controls from it, or possibly saddle bags.

A couple of my coworkers ride now, and there are a couple more who are about to buy bikes, so that will be nice to have a group of people to ride with. I am ready for it to not be raining every frakking day during the week so that I can ride more though. I am not quite ready to be riding around in the rain. I still need to get used to that extra torque first. Here is a better picture of Quinn than the one I posted from my phone.

Why must I always forget

I really need to remember to cover my scooter at night. When I went out to get on it to ride to work this morning, it had been visited by Jack Frost and was covered in a nice layer of frost. Now that in itself is not so bad, but for some reason, I couldn’t turn the key. My guess is that some water got down in the key area some how and froze which was preventing it from turning. If the key doesn’t turn, the electronic ignition doesn’t do much good. I wanted to ride my scooter, as I need to get gas in my jeep, which as of when I got to work today, said I could go 3 miles until I am empty. During lunch I hope to get some gas, and go home and switch out to my scooter for the second half of the day as well as heading out to Christmas dinner tonight. We will see if that happens or now.

A New way of shopping

I came to a realization earlier on today. Normally I go grocery shopping and get provisions that will last for a month or more, but I have the problem that I forget about most of the perishable parts of that fare and it ends up going bad. After work today, I needed a few things from the store, so I went on my scooter as that is what I rode to work today. When you go shopping on a scooter, you really have to pay attention to what you buy so that you have room to get it home. I got everything that I needed, didn’t spend loads of money, and had an easy ride home. I think that I am going to have to do all of my grocery shopping this way. I also took a small bag that I was able to strap to the back of the scooter so that I didn’t need to use plastic bags in the store. Granted this means that I am going to have to make more trips to the store over time, but I think that this new way of shopping will work out better for me when everything is said and done.

Obviously from what I just wrote, I got Bonnie Chan back from the shop. She looks good as new, and I realized how much I missed riding. I did get a full face helmet too. It has some sweet graphics on the back of it, and I definitely need to post a picture soon.

I did have the joy of working today, where I watched the extended Fellowship of the Ring and started the extended Two Towers. Tomorrow when I am at work, I am going to do my best to try to make it through TTT and ROTK extended. It will be cutting it close, but I think I can make it through both of them. After work tomorrow I am headed to a Christmas dinner at Liz and Todd K’s place which will also involve some Call of Duty 4, GH3, and probably Rockband minus the drums if I take it with me.

I hope that everyone has a Merry Christmas and safe travels if you are out and traveling.

Wow that was fast

I ended up finally going on the interstate on the scooter today. It just so happened that it started raining while I was on there. The scooter handled great while doing 75-80. I love that thing more every time that I get on it.

Oh I also named her. Her name is Bonnie-Chan. That is a bleach reference if you are unfamiliar.

So I guess I can finally post about this here

So today I tended my resignation to DK. On Monday August 20, I will start at Ardent, where both Todd and Todd work. It is kind of sad knowing that I will be leaving DK, but very fulfilling at the same time. I hate to leave my coworkers in a lurch, but I have to do what is best for me.

My new job is about the same distance from my house as my current job, just in the opposite direction up Hillsboro.

This also really makes me feel better for a purchase that I made on Sunday. I bought this.

My jeep drinks a lot of gas, and I realized that most of the driving I do is around town, which is where my car doesn’t do so hot on miles per gallon. I really don’t have to worry about that now. I should get between 65 and 80 miles per gallon or something like that with this. It cost a whopping 7.50 to fill it up, since I used premium. I love riding it too. I have to get a license within the next 30 days, and add it to insurance, but it is a blast so far.
