Chattacon 2010

This last weekend was the first convention of the year that I attended, Chattacon in Chattanooga, TN. I worked for part of the con at the beer booth, and also had a photographer badge, even though I didn’t snap that many shots over the weekend. This con is always a great time, and a good chance to catch up with people that you haven’t seen since Dragon*Con in many cases.

They had the band Arc Attack there and i was able to get some decent shots of their show that is conducted using singing Tesla coils.

Here are a couple of samples.

Sickness has arrived

Well last Friday morning, I started getting a scratchy throat and had to blow my nose quite a bit. Over the weekend I took over the counter meds, and that seemed to clear up my nose, but I still had a deep cough. The cough just wouldn’t go away. I went to the clinic today, and I was running a fever and have a viral infection. I was told to stay home for the next two days while taking the meds that I had to get. This does create quite a problem, as Chattacon is this weekend, and it doesn’t look like I am going to be able to go. I can’t drink on the meds I am on, and that is a big portion of Chattacon, and without that aspect, the cost of the badge makes it very cost prohibitive. I hate to miss this one, as it was one of my first conventions to go to, and it has become a tradition. I would rather get well though, as I hate being sick.

Chattacon in review

Well let’s see.

I drank lots of beer. There was no drama at all. Everyone there had a blast. All cons should be like that. My total of my big mug was 3 1/4 mugs. which works out to approximately 14 bottles of Killians. I wish there would have been time for more. That was just Saturday night. I lost count of Friday pretty quickly.

I got to drink a beer with for his birthday which was cool as well. Today is Crispy’s birthday so be sure and wish him a good one.

I am back to a week of work that if the past few have been any indicator, will go rather quickly. I had a performance review today, and I really want to hang it on my refrigerator. I was in shock at the great comments that I got from my manager. That is always a nice feeling. I hope that it will lead to more money before too long, which would make it even better.

I have become really involved with the airsoft team, as within a week of being on the team, I was asked to do some maintenance on their website as well has help with the message board. I really don’t mind this as it is easy, and I like to be able to help out. I can do most of that in the lulls at work, which makes it even better.

March 15th is Noob day at the airsoft field. I am still a noob for this as I haven’t played an official field game. It will also be the first game at which I will be able to use my SAW. I am excited for that. Well back to surfing the internetz while I am here at Portland Brew.

Short week

Well it will be a short week this week. I have Friday off as I will be in Chattanooga for Chattacon. This means that I need to get all of my costume crap together and ready to load into my car by Thursday night, as I want to get to Chattanooga early on Friday to try to check in early. That reminds me that I need to call the hotel and request early check in.

I think that I am taking Chief, well I guess regular deck crew as I am bald and have a huge beard, BSG Marine, and my Centurion. I might take the jumpball suit for one last hurrah before I sell it, but I think it is going to be a little cold for that one.

Well off to work in the 18 degree weather.

Here I am at work

So I am doing emails today, so I get a chance to have a slower day now
that the inbox is empty. I am planning on heading to the airsoft store
today to try to decide what new toy to pick up on Friday. I am
debating between a sniper weapon or a M249 SAW. I really can’t go
wrong with either, but I am at a 50/50 decision right now.

I watched the 2nd episode of Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles
and I really like it. I hope Fox doesn’t screw it up like they do with
all of their good shows. If you didn’t get a chance to see it, the
first episode is available as a free download on itunes right now. You
can’t beat free, so make sure that you go and download it.

Chattacon is the weekend after next, and I am ready to have a weekend
to be a geek and drink lots of beer. I haven’t really done that in a
while. Beer is good.

I have also come to the realization that I have some sort of meeting
of some sort almost every night during the week. Mondays, PB, tuesdays
SOSI 5, Wed, airsoft team meeting, Thursday and Friday don’t have
anything regular, but stuff seems to pop up all of the time.

Well back to being productive.
