This past Saturday I had the opportunity to shoot the Bedford County Humane Association Celebration Pet Day in Shelbyville, TN. This was the 4th time that I attended the event, but the first time taking pictures for it. It was pouring down rain all day, but there was still a decent turnout considering the weather. One of the features of the day was the demonstrations from the Nashville K9 who did demonstrations of dog take downs and advanced obedience. These dogs are all used in SAR (Search and Rescue), SRT and SWAT teams as the need arises. It was great to get to see them in action. I was able to get some decent pictures of them, and I hope to be able to work with them again in the future.
Here are a few images from the day.

I have started adding older pictures to flickr, as it is an easy way to get more exposure for my pictures. It is going to take quite a bit of time to get all of the archived images pulled out of the old galleries and added. The pictures on flickr can be found at

This Saturday I am shooting the Bedford County Humane Association Celebration Pet Day. This is put on by my friend Cheryl and she asked me to come and take shots for the event. It should be a fun day and I hope that I am able to get some decent pictures for Cheryl to use.

Today I got a chance to try out my seamless paper background white shooting Summer in a couple of her costumes. I have to say that I love the background, and can’t wait to do more with it. Here are a couple of samples.

Due to getting a check that I was not expecting in the mail, I was able to go out yesterday and get a Canon 580 EX II flash from Durys. I am excited to get to try this out, as the 580 will act as a master and will trigger my current flash when I set it to slave mode. This will allow me to start a makeshift studio light setup to use with my seamless paper backdrop. Summer is probably coming over on Saturday to do some pictures for Shuttergirls.com so I will get to test the light and see how it works for now. It will be a continual learning process, but it is always cool to try stuff out for the first time.
Speaking of using the backdrop etc, the Geek Media Expo, or GMX for short will be having its year as a con in Nashville. GMX is being put on by the same folks to run MTAC, so it should be run well. GMX is more of a Sci-Fi/Geek appeal, whereas MTAC is all anime, all the time. I was talking to Chase yesterday, and we had the idea to take a backdrop to GMX and shoot for people if they want to have their picture taken with a backdrop. We got it cleared with the GMX staff, so on the Saturday of GMX we will be setup somewhere at the con.
I am glad that we are going to be able to give this a try, as this is something that I feel has been missing from most all conventions. People spend countless hours and hundreds of dollars making great costumes, and then they end up with poorly lit point and shoot pictures after the con. Hopefully this will be received well, and might lead to the opportunity to do it at MTAC and charge a small fee for pictures etc. Time shall tell.
