Woes of the web

On Monday I had the second big issue since my hosting was switched from CI Host to x7hosting.com. My site was up and working when I awoke, and I got ready and then refreshed a page on my site, and instantly got errors that the page was not working. I contact support and expect them to deal with it promptly, as this took my site, as well as anything that connects to a MySQL database out of commission.

Elapse 7 hours later, and 5 times of contacting tech support, as well as the cancellation department for the web host, and my site was finally back up. I had a similar issue happen the first week of August, and I was down for a little over 20 hours. Sadly I had just paid for this quarter and was told there was no guarantee that I would get my money back, so I am going to remain with my current host for at least the next 3 months, and then switch to a different provider at that time. Any company that says you will be company that says 24-48 hours is an acceptable time frame for these this type of error is pretty much unacceptable.

Currently I am looking at possibly going to Media Temple, as I have some friends from back in Houston who now work for them out in Los Angeles and I trust their opinions. If you have any other suggestions, please pass them along, as I have a couple of months to research at the very least.

First Night at the Nashville Derby

I finally got a chance to make it to my first Nashville Roller Girls bout last night. I got to hang out with Chris Lee and also got to see Jess and Mike who are two of my friends who ref for the derby. I am still getting the hang of the new lens, but I was able to get some decent pictures.

A Great Day with a Giveaway

Today turned out to be a pretty good day thanks to Scott Bourne who if you are not aware is a professional photographer who is responsible for Photofocus.com and is also a guest at times on the Macbreak weekly podcast. Scott often does photography related giveaways to people who follow him on Twitter. Today was my lucky day. I received a $100 dollar gift certificate for Lens Coat who make protective neoprene sleeves and cases for photography equipment. This is perfect timing, as I was able to use this to place an order of a cover for my new Canon 70-200 2.8L IS lens.

I also placed a lens on reserve today for me to use at Dragon*Con. Hofmann asked me to help with the Rebel Legion picture, and I have wanted to try out a nice wide angle lens, so I reserved a Tokina 11-16 2.8 from Lensrentals.com. They are located in Memphis, so thanks to Chase, I won’t have to pay any shipping as he is going to pick it up for me when he gets the lens that he is renting for the con.

On Saturday I am finally going to make it to a Nashville Roller Derby bout. I have wanted to go to one since the event in Indiana, and but I have not been able to make it work with my schedule. I hope that I can get some decent pictures to give to a couple of my friends who are referees.

So long ABQ

Well I am finally back in Nashville and it is now time to focus on making sure that I have everything ready for Dragon*Con. I am taking my Lostume to Maria tonight to get embroidered, and then all that will be left for it is to sew on my patch once it arrives. The most daunting task is to find all of the parts of the other costumes in the stack o bins in the garage, while at the same time not turning my house into a disaster area. I will post pictures of the Lostume after I get it embroidered. I think it is going to be one of the best con costumes ever. I just hope that the boots are comfortable.

Schedules Should be Written in Pencil

Well I wake up this afternoon to find an email that I am now going home a day earlier than I was really scheduled for originally, so I get to go home on Sunday. I am kind of torn as I would have preferred to have the extra money to spend at Dragon*Con, but it will be nice to get back home. I need to get my Lostume finished and start digging all of the other costumes out of the bins in order to start packing for the con. The other thing that I am kind of peeved about is that fact that I have not had a chance to get out and take any pictures this go round yet, so I am going to have to try to make it somewhere on Friday when I have the day off. I am thinking of driving to Santa Fe to see what I can find there, but I am not 100 percent sure yet.

For any of you who have been to Albuquerque or Santa Fe, any suggestions of where to go?
