Ok, it is time for me to write about the weekend known as COSI.
The weekend started on Thursday night after a day of work. Everyone got over to my place and we loaded up the Jeep and headed on our way to Louisville for the night. We get there around midnight. Joe checks his voicemail and realizes that he left his tabbards at his house. We then loaded up the car and drove back to Bowling Green where we met his parents and got his tabbards and then drove back to Louisville.
Friday morning we got up and headed to Columbus. We got there around 4:45 or so and went to the hotel and got checked in etc. The hotel that they had us in, was one of the nicer hotels that I have ever stayed in. The little things like instead of soap, they had lemon poppy grass bath scrub. Everything was swanky, and the fact that it was free, made it even better. We then loaded up and headed the couple of blocks over to COSI so that we could unload our costumes etc. We lucked out, in that we got the very first parking spot in the entire lot. We were closer than the handicap parking. We headed in and then got into our costumes for the members preview. Wore the costume for a while, took a break and then it was the midnight opening. While waiting outside for a tv spot they were shooting about the opening, Joe Corroney came up and asked to take some reference shots of me. That was cool as hell. Another thing that made me feel great about my costume was either Friday night or Saturday at some point, I was walking up to the RL table, and at the 501st table, the guy sitting there was talking to someone about how people can join either group with a movie accurate costume etc. He saw me walking up, pointed to me, and said, now that is what I call a screen acurate costume. That really made me proud. The 501st and RL don’t have the best relations nationwide, but it seems like all of the folks at COSI come from areas like us, where we troop together all of the time. I did make the COSI website with a picture from the midnight opening. Go to http://www.cosi.org/starwars/exhibit-sw/journal-sw/ and look at the pictures from June 3rd. Look for the one called Alien pose, and that is yours truly.
On Saturday, we did more trooping. I was wandering around upstairs, and they let me into the kids play area. I went ducking my head around corners surprising kids and parents alike. That was fun. We also did our group picture on Saturday. There were so many costumers that we had to do a seperate RL and 501st picture. We also have a cool picutre of a mini Geonisis recreation with me, , , the wollacks in the best damn clones ever, skip in his ARC, and another clean ep 2 clone. We were realzing that once Joe gets his AOTC Anakin done, and we troop an event that Bob and Maria will be at, we will have Plo Koon, Luminara, Barriss, Kit Fisto, Anakin, Padme, Clones, and we think we have someone to make a Ki Adi Mundi. Bring on the battle droids.
I also figured out how to make baby luke an adornment to my hat. I will post the picture of that when I get a chance.
Sunday consisted of some more trooping and then I went around and looked at the exibit. There is some really cool stuff there. We loaded up Sunday night and did the 7ish hour drive back.
I had more fun this weekend then I have probably ever had at a trooping event. It was great to meet people who I have talked to online from the RL etc. I also loved the fact that everyone took this event as it was meant to be, and represented both groups so well. All of the costumes were top notch, and I think that more garrisons and bases will be traveling to troop with other bases as a result of this event. I will do another post later on with various pictures. I didn’t have my camera with me when I was in costume, so I will have to grab pictures from other’s sites.
