Well I went and saw King Kong the other night, and here are my thoughts. The movie had name recognition in terms of Peter Jackson and Jack Black. I was surprised that Jack Black’s character was done rather well in my opinion. The visuals of the movie were great, but I think that Peter Jackson has a love with long movies. Kong is around 3 1/2 hours long. I am a fan of a long movie like the next guy, but that was kind of ridiculous. You don’t see a monkey until at least an hour in. Overall I liked the movie, but I won’t go and see it in the theater again. I will save my repeat holiday viewings for Narnia.

Well I haven’t posted anything of substance lately, and I am sure that this entry will keep that streak running. It has been nice this week not having to be sewing a costume or making a prop of some sort, but I am ready to start some new costumes. I want to get the ESB Emperor done so that I can submit it for 501st membership. I need to get the robe made in black, some different boots, and then figure out the correct makeup. I will hopefully also be able to get some snow trooper armor, or maybe an imperial guard costume started. I think there is a prop party this Tuesday when I believe that I am going to make a force pike for the hell of it. I have done some research on it, and I think that it can be made for 20-30 dollars which due to the time of the year, an inexpensive prop is a good prop. I am going to go look for stuff at goodwill and salvation army on Tuesday morning to see if they have anything there that can be converted into the prop to cut the cost down even more.
I saw The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and I have to say that it is one of the best movies that I have seen in a while. The visuals were amazing, they stayed true to the book, and the soundtrack quickly moved to the number one playlist in the ipod and cd in the changer in the car. This is only the second soundtrack that I have by Harry Gregson Williams, but he is quickly growing on me. I need to look and see what else he has done. I also purchased the soundtrack for Memoirs of a Geisha. The movie is not out yet, but I looked at the cover and this is what I saw. John Williams composed and directed, and the soloist listed on the front cover are Yo-Yo Ma, and Itzhak Perlman. With names like that, it is hard to go wrong, and I have to say that I was not disappointed.
I made some modifications to the extra bedroom at the house the other day and made it into a project/craft type room. I added some shelves onto the wall, and thanks to LJ was able to get a 6 foot folding plastic banquet style table for 20 bucks. I now have a place where I can have the airbrush, tools, and sewing machine setup and not take over the living room. Here is a picture of what it looks like, well kinda looks like. There is much more on the shelves now.

Chris got his Master degree in music yesterday. Leave him some congrats on his LJ at even though he never updates it.
I will be able to get to Atlanta for Christmas this year, so that will be nice, although it would be nice to go back to Texas since I haven’t been back there in a couple of years now. Hopefully I will have a chance to get back there soon.
I am going to Cheesecake Factory tomorrow with some of the HP_Nashville folks, so I will finally get to see what all of the fuss is about. As for now, I need to get ready to go to work. Second to last Saturday before Christmas. I am sure that it will be hell today. Cheers.
Well this weekend was it. The weekend that I participated in two Christmas parades with the 501st Southern Outpost. I was Darth Sidious, aka the Emperor. I had a blast and it was great to hang out with the folks and brighten some people’s weekends and get them in the Christmas spirit.
Saturday by far was my favorite of the two parades. We had 67 people in costume not counting kids or handlers. It was an ordeal getting everyone in order and marching, but it turned out well. Here is a pic of the group after the parade.
Todd was gracious enough to come and film the whole thing, so after it is edited etc. I will post a video of the parade.
Sunday the group was about 25 or 30 people but we still had a great time. We did the parade at triple time, but fun was still had by all.
I can’t wait until next year’s parades.
I am excited for the first time in a while. Last weekend was cool with the Toys for Tots event in Clarksville, but I was bummed that the parade in Shelbyville was cancelled. This weekend, I will be in a parade on both Saturday and Sunday, not as Plo Koon, but as the emperor. It was decided for me that I would be the emperor last Saturday night. I happened to have some material in my car that would work for the robe, and Rose from Knoxville has mad sewing skills, so I will have a robe to use. I had already ebayed a cane and broach and they should be here either today or tomorrow. I have spent the last 2 nights making a full length under tunic, that is about 90 percent complete. I still need to finish the collar and then do a bottom hem on it. I have to say, that I am impressed in how it looks. The difference between the first two things I made with the sewing machine was like night and day, and this is the 3rd item. It looks pretty darn good. I shaved my goatee and bought makeup to age myself. I finally have a reason to use my yellow contacts too which is always a plus to have validation for what kind of seems like a waste of money at the time.
The parades are going to be in Gallatin and Hendersonville. We have an Obi-Wan and Anakin, Ryan and Joe, who are going to duel in front of the judges, and then there will be 40-50 folks marching total in our group. I think this might be the thing that I need to get me in the holiday spirit.
