Well it has been a busy few days on the costume creation front. I ordered the pants, got my robe in, pretty much finished my mask, finally found a way to make the gloves work etc. Right now I am helping Ryan to finish my belt and pouches, Gena is helping to finish my tunic, I bought a sewing machine and made the shirt minus the collar, and I will be going home tonight and making the tabbards and obi. I am close to being done, but there is still much to do. On Tuesday I have to paint the gloves, and I hope to have everything finished by Thursday, but we will have to see.

Well I had been worried about whether or not I would ever get the mask that I ordered, so I went on ebay and won one. As to be expected, right when I win the auction, I get my shipping email the next day from the place where I ordered the mask from. I got the ebay mask about a week ago, and one of the prongs is glued on crooked. I get the one today that I originally ordered, and both prongs are crooked. I am glad that it worked out like this so that I will have a backup mask since I plan on using this costume for a while. I have much work to do on it though. I have to make an entire inside skeleton for it so that the mask won’t move around. So far, I am using the liner from my hard hat, parts of a plastic vader mask, a cycling shoe cleat, and some gaffers tape. I have foam that I need to add into the sides of the mask to keep it from collapsing in the sides. The hard thing is going to be making the inside structure in a way that I will be able to put it on and take it off easily. I am not sure how that will happen yet, but I have a little bit of time to play with. The other thing that I have to deal with is my gloves. The gloves were very misleading in the picture, and they are way too big. I am going to have to dissect them and then attack them to some orange latex gloves that I found and then craft a claw for the end of the glove. After all of this easy stuff, I will then have to paint the gloves and mask to match each other. I need to go to Performance tomorrow and talk to them and see what type of paints that I need to get to paint the latex where it won’t crack when the material moves. Add this to the fact that I am kind of poor right now, and this could get interesting. I am on a limited time frame, and I have to get the mask done so that it can dry and be tested in wearing it around. I need to have the mask done by Wednesday if at all possible since Sunday is sewing day, and I can’t make my under shirt until the mask is finished.
Speaking of sewing day, I redyed my costume material. My washing machine revolted and caused all of the material to fray to the point where I don’t think that the cut pieces will be usable for an outer tunic. What I had to end up doing is buying more material, which by chance, I like much more. The material that I found is already the right color brown, so I will just need to weather it some after the tunic is made. I ordered my robe, so it should be here within this week or at the beginning of next week. I still need to get proper pants, and then work on getting the boots done. I have a couple of different options for boots right now, and I think that I might use my Mal boots for now, since they won’t be seen that much, and then with Ryan’s help, once I have the money, make completely custom boots. The boots that I got off of ebay aren’t quite what I would like. Ryan is going to start working on my belt and pouches, so I think overall, my costume is still in the proper timeframe that it needs to be in, to have it ready for Halloween, and the ROTS DVD release events.
I went to Horrorfest this weekend and met some of the NAD people and some of the 501st folks. I am pretty sure that once Plo Koon is done, I will start making the red Darth Sidious costume. It will probably take me 6 or 7 months to do it, but I think that it will be worth it. I am going to have to make a full facial prosthetic, full prosthetic gloves, loads of sewing, emboss velvet, find a Sidious saber, and then learn how to use force lightning. That last one could be the problem. I decided that I need to make this so that I can join the 501st, well that and one needs to have both a good guy and a bad guy.
In somewhat unreleated news, I made the reaver weapons that River uses in Serenity. I will post pics once I take some good ones. needs to hurry up and make the costume that is needed to go with the weapons. Before I start Sidious, I think that I am going to update Hagrid for the GOF movie release. I think that I might try to make Hagrid’s furry dress coat. I mean, I need to have it for the yule ball. As for now, I think that it is getting to be the time to leave Portland Brew, and go back and work on my mask some more.
Cheers,
Ok. So far I have seen Serenity 4 times. The sneak release in June, a promo screening Wednesday night, Friday night with the Nashville Browncoats, and Sunday evening with some folks from work and some Browncoats. Friday night was when we all went in costume and it was soo much fun. All of the costumes looked great, and Glenn got a great picture.

I think that we all look very Shiny. My review for the movie is simple. Go see it, and see it at least twice. You will miss things the first time. If you haven’t seen the series, then watch it first if you are able and you will enjoy the movie more, but you will still like it if you are unfamiliar with the series.
If you are in Nashville and want to go again, let me know. I will probably be game to go.
