The time to find Serenity is so close,..

If you have been reading my Livejournal at all for the past 4 months or more, then you have heard of Firefly and you have heard of the movie coming out based on Firefly called Serenity. There is now less than a week until the movie opening. This time that I have been waiting for, and many others before me have been waiting for for over a year is now here. If you have not seen the series Firefly, then go buy it and watch it. At work, I have recommended it to most everyone, and there has not been a naysayer of the series that I have talked to. The movie is great, I saw an unfinished but on it in June, and it will only be better in the finished cut. The cast was at Dragon*Con and the whole atmosphere was buzzing with everything Serenity. This movie came to be based off of the Browncoats. Browncoats are the fans of the TV show Firefly, and thanks to their vigilence in purchasing the DVDs, and spreading the world of Firefly to those who have never seen it, Joss was able to make this movie. Here is a movie poster and a brief synopsis.

Joss Whedon, the Oscar® – and Emmy – nominated writer/director responsible for the worldwide television phenomena of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE, ANGEL and FIREFLY, now applies his trademark compassion and wit to a small band of galactic outcasts 500 years in the future in his feature film directorial debut, Serenity. The film centers around Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, Serenity. He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family –squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal.

After I saw the movie, I was talking to and we started a Yahoo group for Nashville Browcoats, and as of right now, we have a membership of over 40 people in just a couple of months. You can find this group by going to www.nashvillebrowncoats.com. As a group, we will be going to the 7 o’clock showing of the movie at the Opry Mills 20 and IMAX on Friday night in costume to get even more attention for our movie.

Here are a couple of links for more information on the movie:

Be sure and go see the movie multiple times, as after you see it once, you will want to stay in your seat for the next two or three showings of it. See you at the theater.

How bout that Rita

Ok, so there is apparently a hurricane in the Gulf right now. This hurricane is gonna hit the coast hard. I get a call this morning, that there is a chance that my parents will be here tonight. Well that is one of the plans. Their flight is to Atlanta, but if they can’t get on it for some reason, I am option number 2. I tried to call either of my parents cell phones a couple of minutes ago, and all of the cell circuits are busy. My mom has Sprint and dad Verizon, so you have to wonder how many people are using their cell phones right now to fill up those circuits. I was told that I would get a call today letting me know the status of where they are going. Pretty crazy way to start the day huh?

A real update

Ok I know that it has been a while since I did a somewhat real update, so here goes.
In the last 2 weeks of work, I closed 8 days of the 10 days of working. That was not fun. I was training someone to close, and had already said that I could cover some Sunday closes before the training came up. I was wiped out for those two weeks, but I think that I am caught up finally.

All of the Serenity comics came out, and they were really good. They do a good job of filling in the 6 months between the show and the movie. Speaking of the movie, yesterday I heard the worst news ever. THERE WILL BE NO MIDNIGHT SHOWING OF SERENITY!!!!!!!!!!!! All of the planning on going to a midnight premiere, all of the excitement about the release of the movie, and here it comes down to the crunch time, and there is no midnight showing. The serenitycampout website that we had been looking at was made a year ago. They didn’t even check to see if there would be a midnight showing. They just assumed that there would be. So now, I find myself in a bad mood about this fact, but I will have to deal. I guess that the browncoat group will just have a big group of people go to the movie on Friday night but we will have to wait for movie times to be released for that.

I never made my final Dragon*Con entries, because I pretty much forgot what was done each day. Here is the link to all of the pictures. www.dwrd.net/dragoncon and Joe’s pictures at www.dwrd.net/dragonconjoe.

Speaking of D*C, I have been inspired and have already started making one of my costumes for next year that I will also be able to use for Halloween. I am making a Plo Koon costume. Unless you are a Star Wars fan, you probably have no idea who that is, so here is a picture.

I have already started putting the costume together, in that I have bought the material to make the tunics, tabbards and obi, recruited sewing help from and belt/boot/consulting help from . I ordered my light saber which should be delivered today. Last night I did an inital dying of fabric, but it is kinda splotchy so I am going to have to cut it into the pieces that I need for each garment, and then re-dye them to get them a uniform color. For note, one bottle of dye will not work for 9 yards of fabric. I am really excited about making this. If you would have told me 2 months ago that I would have been doing this, I think that I would have called you crazy, but here it is, I have been to more fabric stores in the past few days then I have anywhere else. Who knows? I didn’t realize all of the little parts that are involved in doing an accurate costume, but it is kind of neat. Who knew that the food capsules are Staedtler Liquid Roller Ball pen caps with a hemisphere added into the bottom of it then painted.

One other pretty cool thing is that my mom is sending me her airbrush. It will be very useful for working on costumes, and who doesn’t want to have an airbrush around the house? My lightsaber will be delivered today, so I will put up pictures of it tonight. It is like Christmas waiting for this thing.

LOST

Ok so since I work on Wednesday nights, I was unable to watch LOST. I hadn’t heard anything bad about it, and most all of my friends had been raving about it, so I just bought the DVD set. I watched the first disk and thought that it was pretty good. I didn’t work today since I worked both Saturday and Sunday, so I made today LOST day. I watched the rest of disk 2-6. 19 episodes for the day. That was all that I did today, and it was great. Everyone’s reviews of the show were correct in that it was great. I really want answers about the second season, but that will have to wait. I think that Locke is my favorite character. Who doesn’t travel with a suitcase of knives? I mean you have to have 3 or 4 with you at least.

I have tomorrow off too, so I think that I will use it as a chance to finish up Buffy Season 4, so that I can move onto season 5. I am still planning on doing my other Dragon*Con entries, which I will try to do tomorrow as well.

Cheers…

Don’t you hate it

Don’t you hate it when you wake up about 2 and a half hours before your alarm, feeling sick and you don’t know why, and to top it off, you can’t go back to sleep. I am in that situation right now and it isn’t pretty.
