If you have been reading my Livejournal at all for the past 4 months or more, then you have heard of Firefly and you have heard of the movie coming out based on Firefly called Serenity. There is now less than a week until the movie opening. This time that I have been waiting for, and many others before me have been waiting for for over a year is now here. If you have not seen the series Firefly, then go buy it and watch it. At work, I have recommended it to most everyone, and there has not been a naysayer of the series that I have talked to. The movie is great, I saw an unfinished but on it in June, and it will only be better in the finished cut. The cast was at Dragon*Con and the whole atmosphere was buzzing with everything Serenity. This movie came to be based off of the Browncoats. Browncoats are the fans of the TV show Firefly, and thanks to their vigilence in purchasing the DVDs, and spreading the world of Firefly to those who have never seen it, Joss was able to make this movie. Here is a movie poster and a brief synopsis.

Joss Whedon, the Oscar® – and Emmy – nominated writer/director responsible for the worldwide television phenomena of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE, ANGEL and FIREFLY, now applies his trademark compassion and wit to a small band of galactic outcasts 500 years in the future in his feature film directorial debut, Serenity. The film centers around Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, Serenity. He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family –squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal.
After I saw the movie, I was talking to and we started a Yahoo group for Nashville Browcoats, and as of right now, we have a membership of over 40 people in just a couple of months. You can find this group by going to www.nashvillebrowncoats.com. As a group, we will be going to the 7 o’clock showing of the movie at the Opry Mills 20 and IMAX on Friday night in costume to get even more attention for our movie.

Be sure and go see the movie multiple times, as after you see it once, you will want to stay in your seat for the next two or three showings of it. See you at the theater.
